Collection: Seifried
The beginnings of the Seifreid winery date back to 1973, when the originally Austrian Hermann Seifreid and his New Zealand wife Agnes began planting vineyards in the Moutere Valley near the city of Nelson.
Nelson is the sunniest place in New Zealand (with an average of 2400 hours of sunshine per year) and is located in the north of the South Island. It is surrounded by mountains from the south, east and west, and is washed by the cold and clear waters of the Tasman Sea from the north. Gentle sea breezes provide a mild climate throughout the year. In summer, the daily temperature can reach 30°C on a very warm day, but it generally hovers around 25°C - making it ideal for growing richly varietal, elegant wines. Warm days and cool nights during the critical summer and autumn ripening period help to produce wines with intense varietal characters, brilliantly clear aromas and well-balanced natural acidity.
In 2016, the family winery celebrated 40 years since the first grape harvest, and all three children are now involved in the family business. Today, the Seifried winery manages over 320 hectares of vineyards. Seifried Estate is also a company that deals with sustainable winemaking.
